==Installing Outlook Express==
Operating Systems: Windows 2000 and XP<br>
<b>NOTE:</b> You might need your Windows Operating System CD.  

<b>1</b>. Click on the <b>Start</b> Button. <br>
<b>2</b>. Click on <b>Control Panel</b>. <br>
<b>3</b>. Make sure that you are in Classic View.  Click on <b>Switch to Classic View</b> on the left hand panel.  <br>
<b>4</b>. Click on <b>Add/Remove Programs</b><br>
<b>5</b>. Click on <b>Add/Remove Window Components</b><br>
<b>6</b>. Click on the box next to Outlook Express<br>
<b>7</b>. Click on the <b>Next button</b>.<br>
<b>8</b>. After the Outlook Express finishes installing, click on the <b>Finish</b> button.<br>

==Configuring Outlook for URI Webmail==
<b>1</b>. Open Microsoft Outlook Express.<br>
<b>2</b>. Select Tools and then click on Accounts.<br>
<b>3</b>. This brings up the Internet Accounts pop-up window. Click on the <b>Mail tab</b>. <br>
<b>4</b>. To add a new mail account, click on the <b>Add</b> button and then on <b>Mail</b> <br>
<b>5</b>. To make changes to an existing account, select the account and click the <b>Properties</b> button.<br>
<b>6</b>. Enter your name in the Display Name field and click on the <b>Next</b> button.<br>
<b>7</b>. Enter the full email address and click on the <b>Next</b> button. <br>
<b>8</b>. Select either POP3 or IMAP as the type of server.

<i><b>NOTE:</b></i> POP3 (Post Office Protocol), requires you to download your messages to your computer. You would then use this computer to read or reread your messages.<br>
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol), allows you to keep your messages on the mail server, which enables you to access your email from any computer anywhere. However, you can still transfer your mail to your own computer at any time.

For user information, fill in your name and email address.<br>
Under logon information, use the following,

<b>mail.uri.edu</b> accounts, use your ecampus username and mail password.<br>
<b>postoffice.uri.edu</b> accounts, use the postoffice ID and postoffice password.<br>
<b>etal.uri.edu</b> accounts use the etal ID and etal password.

(please note all passwords are case sensitive)

Use the following [[Email_Settings|incoming/outgoing settings]].

<b>9</b>. When the above is complete click on next.<br> 
<b>10 </b>. Enter your <b>Account Name</b> and <b>Password</b>, click on the <b>Next</b> button then click <b>Finish</b>.<br>

==Configuring URI Webmail through Verizon==
Verizon requires their customers to authenticate through their server every time they send an email. The following settings should resolve any issues:<br>
<b>1</b>. Go to Tools.<br> 
<b>2</b>. Select <b>"Accounts..."</b><br>
<b>3</b>. The <b>"Internet Accounts"</b> window should appear. Select the desired account and click the <b>"Properties"</b> button.<br>
<b>4</b>. Select the <b>"Servers"</b> tab.<br>
<b>5</b>. Under <b>"Outgoing Mail Server"</b>, check the <b>"My server requires authentication"</b> box. Click on the <b>"Settings"</b> button.<br>
<b>6</b>. The <b>"Outgoing Mail Server"</b> window should appear, select the option <b>"Use same settings as my incoming mail server"</b>.<br>
<b>7</b>. Select <b>"OK"</b>, then click <b>"Apply"</b>
