WebCT is a Web-based Course Tools system used by URI to provide learning environment on the web since 1998. It has built-in tools (such as course material publishing, syllabus, discussion board, chat, quiz, grade book...etc), that facilitate teaching and learning in a more dynamic fashion. It is convenient - any time and anywhere - and it is secure (password protected). Some faculty use WebCT to supplement their face-to-face teaching, while URI On-Line faculty use WebCT to teach courses completely on-line with minimal or no face-to-face meeting. Your instructor in the face-to-face class will tell you if he/she uses WebCT as a supplementary teaching tool. If you take courses from URI online, you will need to contact your instructor before the semester starts to obtain information about WebCT.

Allowing Pop-Ups
WebCT uses pop-ups as part of its normal functionality. However, many new operating systems and browsers block pop-ups by default.
1. In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools Menu and select Pop-up Blocker, then Pop-up Blocker Settings.
2. In the "Address of Web site to allow" field, enter webct.uri.edu and click the Add button. Click on Close.
IE7 Conflict
There are problems when resizing online quizzes windows with Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) if instructors use alternate questions or random ordering of answers in their quizzes. Because of this, instructors and students should use browsers other than IE7 (such as FireFox or Safari). You can also roll back Internet Explorer to IE6 (See Internet Explorer).
Removing Courses
Help Desk staff can remove old courses from student's MyWebCT. Please call and provide the course ID: the semester number, course name, course code, and class number (such as 2071-URIPS-CHM-201-SEC0001-1234). Please allow two business days for the courses to be removed.
