This service is currently not available, but will become active Fall 2007.

The URI Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) will allow your computer to get Microsoft updates without going to the internet.

Configuration

Note: These instructions are for W2K (SP3+) and XP (SP2) computers within the University of Rhode Island Network.

  1. Download and save the WSUS Registry Script to your desktop
  2. Double click wsus.reg
wsus.reg Information
  • Enables Automatic Updates, set to Automatic Download and Install
  • Point to the URI WSUS server: http://wsus.its.uri.edu:8530
  • Set the Client-side Target group to general.
  • Set the scheduled update to be 5:00 AM every day.
  • Reschedule updates to the next boot time if the scheduled time is missed.
  • Specify a 5 minute delay if a scheduled update that was missed.
  • Set the option to not restart the computer automatically after an update.
  • Set Automatic Updates to notify user if a system restart is required.
