What is VoIP?
VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) telephone systems use existing internet connections to make and receive phone calls. Unlike analog or digital phones, VoIP phones are capable of sending information over the internet with virtually no loss in functionality, reliability, or voice quality.
Installation
Cisco 7940 series phones have been installed in select dorms (including Garrahy Hall, Wiley Hall, and Eddy Hall). They have been set up prior to students' arrival and should not be reset or unplugged from the wall. The phones are also designed to work with computers and other network devices. Garrahy, Wiley, and Eddy Hall normally have only one active ethernet port per room (gray port), therefore wired network connections for devices must go through the Cisco 7940 phones for both devices and phones to work.
