Automatic Method
1. Download WinSock XP Fix (search).
2. Run the program and follow the simple instructions.
Manual Method
Removing the Registry Keys
1. Go to Start, Run, and type "Regedit".
2. Find the following keys, export both, then delete them.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
3. You must restart the computer now; do not proceed until after a reboot.
Installing TCP/IP
1. Right-click the LAN connection and go to Properties.
2. Click "Install", then "Protocol", then "Add", then "Have Disk".
3. Browse to the \inf folder (c:\windows\inf), and look for the nettcpip.inf file.
4. TCP/IP should now appear in the list of available protocols. Click OK and then restart.
Note
If the network connection properties contain more than the following three items, then additional items may need to be removed in order to restore browsing.
Client for Microsoft Networks File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks TCP/IP
Third-party proxy software or firewalls may need to be reinstalled.
