At URI, departments can purchase the following software for installation on URI property computers. The prices listed below include installation.

Windows Software

Purchase Software

To purchase software, send the original purchase order to Nancy Gronstrom, 210 Flagg Rd. You may also fax the purchase order to Nancy at (401)874-7004.

Once Nancy Gronstrom has received your request and has entered it in the system someone from the Help Desk will contact you to schedule the installation. This usually happens within 1-2 business days of Nancy Gronstrom receiving the college requisition. Most Office installs can be accomplished over the network (enabling quicker service). Unfortunately, installation of an operating system can not always be scheduled within two business days due to staffing and the number of trouble calls at the Help Desk. We will also check whether there is a tech in your department. If so, that person may be available sooner.

If an operating system install requires data transfer from another machine, the Help Desk will schedule the data transfer for a Friday afternoon and return the machine on Monday. The faculty or staff member must be present during the Friday afternoon appointment to detail which files and folders will be moved.

College Requisition Instructions

Please fill out the college requisition with the following information: 1. Under the Suggested Vendor: Media and Technology Services, Nancy Gronstrom
2. Fill out the Requisitioning Department Name along with name and complete address, email and telephone number
3. Please include the name of the person who the software license is for and their contact information and their operating system.
4. Include the chart field number so that the department can be charged.
5. The list of software license(s) being purchased and quantity.

Windows XP
Application Description: Intel-based Computer Operating System Version, minimum 512 MB RAM and 600 MHz processor
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff on URI property machines only.

Windows Vista
Application Description: Intel-based Computer Operating System Version, minimum 1 GB RAM and 800 MHz processor
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff on URI property machines only.

Office XP
System Platforms: Windows 2000 and XP
Application Description: Wordprocessing, spreadsheet, presentation software, Access, and FrontPage
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff on URI property machines only.

Office 2007
System Platforms: Windows XP and Vista
Application Description: Access, Communicator, Excel, Groove, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word. Creates XML document that require a converter to be used by earlier versions of Office.
NOTE: This version does not contain Frontpage.
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff on URI property machines only.

Adobe Acrobat Professional 7
System Platforms: Windows 2000, XP
Application Description: Create Portable Document Format (PDF) Files
Eligibility: Faculty and Staff on URI property machines only.

ArcGIS 9.1 includes ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox and ArcGlobe
System Platforms: Windows 2000, XP
Application Description: Geographical Information System (GIS) . URI offers the ArcView, ArcEditor and ArcInfo product levels. ArcInfo has he most features. There are also extensions available for ArcGIS, http://podcast.uri.edu/help/index.php/Handout_26 for further information. This software is available only to URI faculty and staff, It is licensed annually to the University.
