( also called P4P or Pay-for-Print)

In both Kingston and Providence, students in the Libraries (for copying, scanning, emailing, and printing documents) and Computer Labs, students will use the URI Pay for Print service with their RAM card. In addition, Pay for Print can also be accessed from student-owned laptops wirelessly in the 24-Hour Room (Kingston Library) by following installing a driver and following the cirections below (for Apple and Windows computers).

Apple Computer (Macintosh) Directions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRINTING FROM A MACINTOSH MACHINE USING YOUR URI ID AND YOUR RAM ACCOUNT

Print the document within the application on your computer as you normally would. You will see the following Print Dialog box:

Choose either the “URI BLACK & WHITE” or “URI COLOR” options. You can also choose to use Duplexing so that both sides of the page will be used. To do this, click on the ‘Copies & Pages’ pull-down menu and select “Layout” (see picture below):

If you choose to print on both sides of the paper, you also need to choose the binding orientation (“long-edge” or “short-edge”). When you have finished configuring your settings, click the PRINT button.

Type in your 9-digit URI ID number when prompted.

1. Walk to any printer, copier, or print station and swipe your URI ID. ONLY YOUR PRINT JOBS will be displayed on the screen (based on your 9-digit ID number). a. If your job does not appear on the list, chances are that a typographical error was made when you typed your ID number. b. Go back to your machine and submit the print job again. 2. Select the jobs that you want to have printed (either with the mouse or the copier’s keypad) and then press OK. Your jobs will begin to print momentarily. 3. Print jobs will remain in the printing queue for two (2) hours. If they are not printed within that time, they will automatically be deleted from the print server.

Windows Computers (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.) Directions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRINTING FROM A WINDOWS MACHINE USING YOUR URI ID AND YOUR RAM ACCOUNT

Print the document within the application on your computer as you normally would. You will see one of the following Print Dialog boxes:

Choose either the “URI BLACK_WHITE PRINT SERVER” or “URI COLOR PRINT SERVER.” You can also choose to use Duplexing so that both sides of the page will be used. To do this, click on the ‘Properties’ button and select “Two-side (Duplex) Printing.”

When you have finished configuring your settings, click the OK button.

Type in your 9-digit URI ID number when prompted.

COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PRINTING/COPYING

Black & White prints

10 cents per page for Single-Sided printing/copying.
20 cents per page for Double-Sided printing/copying.

Color prints

25 cents per page for Single-Sided printing/copying.
50 cents per page for Double-Sided printing/copying.

How to Configure Computer to Use Pay for Printing Services

If you wish to use your own computer with the URI Pay-for-Print services, you can install the necessary files and print to the printers in the Library and other locations across the campus (such as compute labs).

Macintosh Computer Directions

How To Configure a Macintosh Computer to use Pay For Printing Services


1.Download Pharos Software

a. Using a web browser, go to this website: http://www.uri.edu/cma/print/Popup.dmg

b. The download of the file should start automatically. If not, click on the “Popup.dmg” file and download it to your hard drive

i. Open the “PopUp.dmg” file – you will see an icon of a new drive on your desktop, and a new window with PopUp installer in it.

ii.Double-click the PopUp installer and follow the directions on the screen to install it. You will need to have an account with Administrator privileges in order to install the software.

c.Using a web browser, go to this website: http://www.uri.edu/cma/print/Notify.dmg

d. The download of the file should start automatically. If not, click on the “Notify.dmg” file and download it to your hard drive

i.Open the “Notify.dmg” file – you will see an icon of a new drive on your desktop, and a new window with Notify installer in it.ii.Double-click the Notify installer and follow the directions on the screen to install it. You will need to have an account with Administrator privileges in order to install the software.


2.Install Print Queue Drivers

a.MAC OS 10.4.9 AND BELOW:

i. From the Apple menu, choose Preferences.

ii. Click on [Print/Fax] icon.

iii. Click the <Add> button in the toolbar, then hold down the <Option> key on the keyboard and click the <More Printers...> button.

iv. From the topmost popup button, select <Advanced>.

v. From the <Device> popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>.

vi. In the <Device Name> field, enter a name for the new printer queue (we suggest “URI Black & White Print Server” or “URI Color Print Server”)

vii. In the <Device URL> field, enter “popup://labprint/macbw” (to use the black and white queue) or “popup://labprint/maccolor” (to use the color queue).

viii. From the <Printer Model> popup button, select “HP Color LaserJet 5550” as the printer driver.

ix. Click <Add>. The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers.

b. MAC OS 10.5 AND ABOVE:

i. From the Apple menu, choose Preferences.

ii. Click on [Print/Fax] icon.

iii. Click the <+> button at the bottom left of the window.

iv. Hold down the <Control> key on your keyboard and click the near the top of the toolbar. A popup menu will appear. Select <Customize Toolbar>.

v. Drag the <Advanced> icon to the toolbar and close the customization dialog.

vi. Click on the <Advanced> button in the toolbar.

vii. From the <Type> popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>.

viii. In the <URL> field, enter “popup://labprint/macbw” (to use the black and white queue) or “popup://labprint/maccolor” (to use the color queue).

ix. In the <Name> field, enter a name for the new printer queue (we suggest “URI Black & White Print Server” or “URI Color Print Server”)

x. From the <Printer Using> popup button, select “HP Color LaserJet 5550” as the printer driver.

xi. Click <Add>. The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers.


3. When you print (from whatever application you are using), you will now have the ability to choose the “URI Black & White Print Server” or the “URI Color Print Server”.
