Game consoles accessing the internet via a wired connection are not required to register with the network. All consoles are automatically registered with Safe Connect as plug-and-play devices. Wireless connections are not recommended; wireless support is provided on a best-effort basis. Please note that some devices, such as the Wii, may require users to browse to a webpage using the Wii Browser in order to authenticate with Safe Connect before playing MMORPGs.

Connections

For user protection, the university network is set to deny uninvited incoming traffic. Therefore, in some games, university-based players must make an outgoing connection before non-university-based players can join and interact in the game. However, many new games do not require this initial connection.

Supported Devices

  • Nintendo Wii - To connect to the internet, the user must download the internet browser and open it to be allowed through Safe*Connect
  • Sony Playstation 3 - To connect to the internet, the user must open the web browser to be allowed through Safe*Connect
  • Microsoft Xbox360 - To connect to the internet, the user must sign into XBox Live

When in doubt, the user must generate web traffic (like a web browser) in order to be allowed through Safe*Connect.

Devices Specifically Not Supported

While we have made a best effort to make all network ready devices work we have discovered issues connecting the following devices.
