Multimedia racks are located in computer labs across campus as well as in many classrooms. Most are locked and designed to be turned on or off under certain conditions; please consult Classroom Media Assistance for instructions and training before using a multimedia rack.
Extron System
This "switch" is used to interface media inputs (optical media, tape media, computers) with room outputs (classroom-installed projectors and speaker systems). For more information on the functions of the switch, consult the Extron System article.
Media Inputs
Many multimedia racks come standard with a computer audio/video input, DVD video player, a VHS cassette player, and audio cassette player. Located in the bottom drawer of each rack are manuals for these devices as well as their remote controls. The computer inputs are generally a VGA monitor cable and a 3.5-inch audio jack extending from the rear of the rack.
Media Outputs
Most video and audio are output through either an installed projector, a mobile projector on a cart, or a touch-screen "smart" board as well as through standard speakers mounted to a wall or on a cart. Please note that these devices are pre-calibrated for classroom use and users should not attempt to adjust their settings without prior training.
