A small number of Macintosh users may experience problems with Bluesocket when attempting to log into Academic or Student wireless. When users enter an address in a browser (i.e. www.uri.edu), ":8090/www.bluesocket.com" or other ports and data may be appended to the address. Follow the directions below to fix this error.
Solution
1. Go to user/Library/Preferences/ and delete the following network preference files.
com.apple.internetconfig.plist com.apple.internetconnect.plist com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
2. Go to disc/Library/Preferences/ and delete the following network preferences file.
com.apple.networkConfig.plist
3. Restart the machine. Your preference files should be rebuilt without errors.
Availability
Some users may only be able to use certain wireless networks (i.e. "Academic", but not "Student"), even though they may obtain a valid IP address. This error prevents users from ever logging into a specifically named network. Follow the directions below to fix this error.
Solution
1. In your primary browser, such as Safari or Firefox, clear all private data (including cookies, history, and cache).
2. Go to user/Library/Preferences/ and delete the following network preference files.
com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist com.apple.internetconfig.plist com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
3. Go to disc/Library/Preferences/ and delete the following network preferences file.
com.apple.networkConfig.plist
4. Restart the machine. Your preference files should be rebuilt without errors.
Intego NetBarrier
Due to specific technologies included in the Intego NetBarrier, wireless clients may be kicked off wireless after short periods of time. Generally, users will receive a 169.x.x.x IP address which is not caused by the machine, but rather by third-party software.
Solution
1. Uninstall NetBarrier.
2. Turn on your firewall and lock down your machine.
Inquisitor
Some recent versions of the Inquisitor plugin for Safari have been known to crash the application when attempting to log into Bluesocket wireless systems. This issue is not known to affect other browsers or the operating system.
Solution
1. Download the Inquisitor installer, launch it, and select the "Uninstall" option.
2. Quit and relaunch Safari. Users may need to restart the machine.
