Problems with IE7

Many problems with IE7 can be fixed with a simple reset. Try doing a reset if you are experiencing problems. You can do this by first navigating here: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset. A new window should open and you should be asked if you want to reset. Select the reset button to reset IE completely to its pre-defined defaults. After that is complete, you should restart IE7 by closing all open instances of it and then reopening IE7. Problems with IE7 have mainly occurred when updating from old versions rather than first time installations of Internet Explorer 7. Also, the compatibility of the browser itself to various sites and services may be causing problems while browsing.

If you have recently updated from an older version of Internet Explorer to Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) using Automatic Updates or Windows Update, there may be a problem with the installation and WebCT. The way the update is installed can cause bugs to occur. A known issue with the use of IE7, after a recent update from IE6, causes problems with downloading or opening files from WebCT (and possibly other services). To fix this, you must reset the settings in IE7 by the above method.

Blocked Downloads

By default, IE 6 and 7 block file downloads. The Information Bar alerts users when files are blocked but this default may prevent users from being able to download files. To avoid this situation, users should set the IE Security Settings to enable "Automatic prompting for file downloads." The default setting for this option is "Disable."

1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
2. Under the Security tab, select Web content zone, Internet.
3. Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level.
4. In the Security Settings panel, scroll down to the Downloads section.
5. Under the Automatic prompting for file downloads subheading, click Enable.
6. Click OK on both panels, then close all of your active browser sessions for the changes to take effect.
