Configure Email with LDAP

This document will allow users to auto-fill email addresses with university profiles in the LDAP Directory.
Configure Mac Mail
1. Open Mac Mail, and go to Mail > Preferences.
2. Select the Composing tab, and check "Automatically complete addresses".
3. Click the "Configure LDAP" button, then "Add". Enter the following information,
Name: aldap.uri.edu Server: aldap.uri.edu Search Base: dc=uri,dc=edu Port: 389 Scope: Subtree
4. Open Address Book, and select "ldap.uri.edu" under Directories.
5. Use the search function at the top right to find any user.
Configure Outlook
1. Click on Tools under the main menu.
2. Select "E-mail Accounts" from the drop down list.
3. Select "Add a new directory or address book" and click Next.
4. Select "Internet Directory Service (LDAP)" and click the Next button.
5. Type aldap.uri.edu in the Server Name field and a small window will appear. Click "More Settings".
6. Click OK, then select the Search tab, and enter "dc=uri,dc=edu" under Search Base.
7. Click OK, then Next. You may now use LDAP when composing an email.
Configure Outlook Express and Microsoft Address Book
1. Click on the "Tools" menu.
2. Select "Accounts" from the drop down menu.
3. Click the "Add" button (in Outlook Express, select "Directory Service..." after "Add"). A new window should open.
4. Type in aldap.uri.edu into the "Internet Directory (LDAP) Server" field.
5. Click "Next". Select "Yes", then click "Next", and then "Finish".
6. Back in the Accounts window, click on the aldap.uri.edu Directory Service to highlight it (in Outlook Express, select the "Directory Service" tab first).
7. Click on the "Properties" button to the right. A new window should open.
8. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
9. Type in "dc=uri,dc=edu" (without the quotation marks) into the "Search base:" field.
10. The "Server Port Number" should be 389. "SSL" should NOT be selected.
11. Click "OK", and then "Close" to finish setup.
The server does not require login, but you must be on campus. To use the LDAP server, click on "Address Book" within Outlook Express, or open Address Book manually (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Address Book). To do a search, click on the "Find People" button (or click on the "Edit" menu, and select "Find People") within Address Book. Under the "Look In" drop down menu, select aldap.uri.edu. Enter search criteria, and then select "Find Now".
