Background

Purpose

Here at the University of Rhode Island, data is stored on hard drives, USB flash drives, CD-ROM’s, and tape drives. When the media is no longer useful, the data it holds must be securely removed to prevent unauthorized access. This must be done to comply with FERPA, University policies and state legislation, and is especially important if the data is sensitive.
