Access
Important Notes: Card Activation
This auditorium is accessed with a card swipe lock. Before you can enter, you must have your URI ID card authorized for
access to this room.
Test your card at least 1 business day prior to your first class meeting. If your card does not work, contact Facilities Services Access Control Office at 874- 4577, or e-mail at access@etal.uri.edu.
Media Equipment
Chafee 273 has the following equipment installed:
- Installed LCD Projector
- Extron Media Link Controller
- DVD, VCR Player
- Wireless Microphone
- Wired/wireless Internet Access
Directions
- Light Switches
Control lighting for the auditorium. The panel on the left controls various lights. The dimmer knob on the other panel controls the power and intensity of the room lights.
- Installed LCD Projector
The LCD Projector screen is rear-projection, meaning the projector is behind the screen and displays the image through the screen. The left screen is used for installed LCD projection.
Extron Media Link Controller
- Wall Panel
The MLC Panel powers the projector On/Off and selects the projected image source.
- Floor Hatch Door
The laptop VGA cable is located in the hatch box in the center of the stage area floor. The door is removed for access and replaced when not in use. Plug video player cables into the outlets on the right of the MLC panel. Press the button above the white label to select input source. Input options include the following:
- Computer - VGA video cable and an 1/8th inch audio extension are located in the floor box. Connect to your laptop for a computer presentation.
- S-Video - The left-most, black plug labeled "S-Video" corresponds to the similarly labeled input button.
- Composite Video - To the right are three colored RCA cable plugs which correspond to the "Composite Video" input. Color coded RCA cable inputs: yellow = video, white and red = left and right audio.
Press and hold the "Display Power" button on the left side of the Extron MLC panel firmly for 3 seconds. WAIT. Projector requires 30 seconds to reach full illumination power. Re-start cycle time is 2-minutes before re-starting the projector after it has been powered Off.
DVD, VCR Player
There is a rack in the classroom which holds a VCR/DVD player. A key is needed to access the equipment which is gained through Classroom Media Assistance (See Above).
Wireless Microphone
Reserve the microphone from the Classroom Media Assistance Office in Chafee 217.
The wireless lapel microphone is pre-set in the sound system. To activate, first slide the protective cover off the display, and press the red Power button (small circle). Close cover. Then the Mute switch (large circle) must be moved to the Off position. DO NOT TOUCH THE CHANNEL BUTTONS.
When done, first move the Mute switch (large circle) to the On position. Then slide the protective cover off the display, and press the red Power button (small circle) to power Off the microphone. Close cover. Return the microphone to CMA Office in Chafee 217.
Wired/Wireless Internet Access
Allows you to connect your laptop to the URI network while giving your presentation. The red dot indicates an active port.
Locking Up Procedures
- 1. On the Media Link Controller, press the "Power Display OFF" button to turn Off the projector.
- 2. Remove your media and Power Off the media machine used. Power Off your laptop. Return cables to the floor box and/or media case.
- 3. Power OFF microphone and return to Classroom Media Assistance Office in Chafee 217.
- 4. Turn the classroom Lights OFF. Shut all Exterior Doors.
- 5. Swipe-lock the main door using your URI ID card. The card-reader light will blink green when in locked mode.
Security
Ask students waiting for the next class to remain outside the classroom until their instructor arrives. You as Instructor are responsible for the room's security during your class time, so please lock up!
