Access

This classroom is not a general assignment classroom. It is booked through Information Technology Services. It serves several functions-- distance education, teleconferencing and instructional use.

All media equipment must be reserved via the Web reservation form. Acces is given only after training on the room's equipment has been completed. Training can be requested via the online reservation form (above) or through an email to cmaking@etal.uri.edu.

Installed Equipment

Chafee 101 has the following equipment installed:

  • Two installed, ceiling-mounted LCD projector
  • Two Projection screens
  • One Plasma Television
  • Computer at Instructor's Station running Windows XP
  • Wireless Internet access
  • Three Video Conferencing cameras for Distance Learning
  • NOMAD Laptop cart

The NOMAD program at URI provides classrooms with cutting-edge technology, which is restricted to the Education department.

  • 25 HP laptops running Windows XP SP3
  • SPSS
  • Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator
  • Up-to-date McAffe Anti-Virus software





Equipment Use Directions

Training is Required for first-time users.

Chafee 101 Projector Remote

To turn on the projector, use the grey Epson remote control located on the teaching station desk.

  • Press the Power Button to turn on the projector. Allow approximately one minute for the projector to start up.

If you want to turn on the front projector, press the power button while in the front of the room, as the same remote will control both projectors in the room.
If you want to turn on the rear projector (the projector farthest from the front of the room) you must move towards the projector and point the remote towards the projector to control it.

To switch the source for the projector, use the number pad on the remote control (see image at right for the control buttons, in the red rectangle)
Media Source Switching:

  • Press "4" (Comp 1) for the installed desktop computer.
  • Press "5" (Comp 2) for a laptop.
  • Press "1" (S-Video) for the document camera.

Requests for Software on Laptops

All requests for software to be installed on the Chafee 101 laptops requires at last two weeks notice.
