Music Files
Windows does not have a native way of burning Music CDs. In order to burn an Audio CD you must use a third-party program such as iTunes or Real Audio. The URI Help Desk does not support these third party programs. The URI Helpdesk Service Catalog can be found here.
Data CD
Windows XP
1. Inset a blank CD into the CD tray.
2. Choose the option to Open Writable CD Folder. If that does show up, go to My Computer and double click the CD Drive.
3. Move the files you want burned to the CD Window.
4. Click "Write these files to CD" on the left side of the screen.
Windows Vista
1. Inset a blank CD into the CD Tray.
2. Chose Write Files to CD.
3. Once the CD is formatted you will be able to move files to that CD and they will be written to it.
ISO/Image
Windows does not have a native way of burning ISO/Images. In order to burn an ISO/Image you must use a third-party program such as Daemon Tools. The URI Help Desk does not support these third party programs. The URI Helpdesk Service Catalog can be found here.
Macintosh
Music Files
1. Insert a CD into the CD tray and click OK.
2. A new window will open with the directions on how to burn within iTunes.
3. After reading the directions, click OK. iTunes will open.
4. Select the playlist (in the left column) that you wish to burn. The eye icon in the upper right will change to a burn CD icon.
5. Click on that icon or pull down the 'File' menu and select 'Burn Playlist to Disc'.
6. The disc will start to burn. When complete, it will appear on the desktop.
7. The disc can then be ejected by using the eject key in the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard or go to File, and select Eject.
Data CD
1. Insert a blank CD. A new window will open. Click OK.
2. Find and select the file(s) you wish to burn. Go to Edit > Copy.
3. Double-click the blank CD icon on the desktop. A window will open. Go to Edit > Paste. The files will be copied into the window.
4. To burn the CD, click on the 'Burn CD' icon at the top right. A new window will pop up.
5. Name the disc and select your burn speed (we recommend maximum speed).
6. Click 'Burn'. A window will pop up to track the status of the burn.
First, the data will be burned onto the disc. Second, the disc will undergo a verification process to ensure there are no errors. Also, please note that if users wish to copy information from a pre-existing CD onto a blank CD, they will first have to insert the pre-existing CD and copy all of the information to a folder (preferably a folder on the desktop).
ISO/Image
1. Insert a blank CD. A new window will open. Click OK.
2. Go to the Applications folder, Utilities folder, and open Disk Utility.
3. From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.
4. In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
5. Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.
