What Is The AOL Toolbar?

While some browser toolbars add functionality, they are considered a security risk for many browser programs. A large number of third-party toolbars are made for this express purpose, designed as malware and disguised as a useful tool. The AOL Toolbar in particular prevents your computer from connecting with SafeConnect through a browser such as Internet Explorer. Removing the toolbar, using these simple directions, should enable you to connect to SafeConnect and register. If you still cannot connect, your machine might be infected with spyware.

How did I get the AOL Toolbar?

When installing a new version of AIM (v.5.9.3861) the process puts AOL Explorer and AOL Toolbar options in your browser. Thus, unless you deselect the AOL Toolbar option, it will be installed. It is because of this action that the toolbar can be considered malware.
